It is 2022, and you often hear that a Great Reset will take place. Sometimes in a positive sense, but more often, we are warned: The Great Reset is a plan by “the elite” to change the global financial system at the expense of the less fortunate.
As an explorer of mysteries and a critical thinker, I wanted to know what the Great Reset is and whether I should believe the conspiracists.
What is the great reset?
The Great Reset is a proposal first presented at the 2020 World Economic Forum (WEF) to build the global economy sustainably after the COVID-19 crisis. Prince Charles and Klaus Schwab, founder and chairman of the WEF, presented the proposal under the title, “The Great Reset, Transforming Our World and Building Back Better.”
What is the agenda of the Great Reset?
The idea behind the Great Reset is to use the COVID-19 crisis to rebuild essential systems. These include finance, health care, education, energy supply, and tackling climate change. You can download Schwab’s complete book here.
The Sustainable Development Goals were used as a guideline. The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), also known as the Global Goals, were adopted by the United Nations in 2015 as a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure that by 2030 all people enjoy peace and prosperity.
Building Back Better
Building Back Better (BBB) is a concept that uses post-disaster reconstruction and recovery as an opportunity to improve people’s conditions, as defined in the Sustainable Development Goals.
Many leaders such as Emmanuel Macron, Nancy Pelosi, Justin Trudeau, Obama, Biden, Kamala Harris, Bill Gates, and even our Dutch prime minister, Mark Rutte, use this term when they talk about the world after the COVID-19 crisis. Within traditional politics, Building Back Better is increasingly popular.
Central to this approach is a focus on well-being and inclusiveness. Other key dimensions for assessing whether recovery packages can “build back better” include alignment with long-term emission reduction goals, factoring in resilience to climate impacts, slowing biodiversity loss and increasing circularity of supply chains. As Winston Churchill said: “Never waste a good crisis!”.
A secret agenda of the WEF?
There always seems to be a kind of distrust of the wealthiest people on earth. When they talk about sustainability, combating poverty, and other reforms, you can hardly help but raise your eyebrows. What is the secret plan? What do they ultimately want to achieve? A better world? For whom and at what cost? After this reset, is there still room for people like you and me?
Conspiracy thinkers, distrusting the good intentions of the World Economic Forum, make up all kinds of stories that are hard to prove: Swab would like to make man redundant. Moreover, he wants to use technology to turn us, ordinary people, into robots and our thoughts controlled by artificial intelligence.
The elite would also like to introduce a global communist system where there is no more property. Then, of course, there is also the story that Bill Gates (a member of the WEF) wants to reduce the world’s population with vaccinations. He would also like to provide the vaccines with a chip that changes our DNA.
Stories like these are like urban legends; If repeated enough, many people will believe them.
The reputation of the World Economic Forum (WEF)
The WEF, existing of multinationals, bankers, and other influential people, is, in my opinion, much more concerned with their reputation.
Many of their members are the cause of the problems on this planet. This group represents the biggest polluters, our monetary system, and the ailing pharmaceutical industry. They want to pay as little tax as possible, but now present socially desirable solutions to the world’s biggest problems.
You might call this ‘rebranding‘ within marketing: “Look at us, we are the good guys. We are solving the problems our predecessors created.”
The Great Reset and Democracy
Democracy means rule by the people. We elect governments, and they make decisions in our name. It is a form of management based on equality; we are all equal before the law and should be treated that way.
However, we did not elect the World Economic Forum, but apparently, they want a political role. Unfortunately, that is precisely where the problem lies.
The great advantage of a democracy is that we can re-elect or vote out our representatives. Our democratically elected rulers are accountable through our electoral system. Every four or five years, we get to choose again. Unfortunately, organizations such as the WEF and the WHO (World Health Organization) do not have this system.
It is up to our representatives to assess the advice of these organizations. They decide whether to follow it or not. The influence of the ordinary people on these institutions is indirect and passes through the people we have elected into our government.
Individuality and Originality
If there is one thing that the COVID-19 crisis exposes, most of our world leaders show little individuality and originality. The crisis is being dealt with in the same way all around the world. Almost everywhere, there are restrictions on freedom. Politicians look at the figures and measures of their neighboring countries and copy or strengthen the actions. In doing so, they often follow the advice of the WHO.
I’m not an economist, but even I can predict that we have to pay the bill. Pumping billions into a stagnant economy can only lead to us facing massive inflation.
Maybe this is not exactly a happy thought for the wealthiest people on earth. Time for a different financial system, perhaps? Is this the real reason for the ‘reset’?
Is the Great Reset New?
If we go back in history, we come across the Great Reset in different forms. Elsewhere, I write about the Georgia Guidestones. Several principles of the Great Reset were already carved in stone in the seventies. Those were also turbulent years, and I can still remember them well.
I wonder how the results of the ‘Club of Rome‘ compare to the WEF. The Club of Rome, founded in 1968, was a nonprofit, informal organization of intellectuals and business leaders whose goal was a critical discussion of pressing global issues. Their message also was that we exploited the earth and needed measures to protect the planet.
We, young people then, stood up for sustainable solutions and protested against the polluters and capitalism. People of my generation still refuse to refuel at a Shell gas station because of the way Shell exploited poor countries and handled pollution in the seventies.
(By the way, did I mention that Royal Dutch Shell is a member of the WEF?!?)
What's in it for them?
So, the message of the Great Reset is not new at all. The only difference is that, due to the measures against COVID-19, a lot of people distrust their leaders more than ever.
Some believe the virus was created to take our freedom away or to make it possible to inject us with something that will change our DNA.
I have heard a lot of conspiracies in the last couple of years, and although I am not convinced that they are right, I do think it is strange that a group of rich and powerful people tell us what is good for humanity. Specifically, this group is suspect. They are responsible for this mess in the first place. Is it logical, that they would put their benefits aside to create a better world?
What is in it for them?
The Role of the Internet
Exploring this subject, I had to realize that I am influenced by what I (want to) hear. For many people, the real truth can be found in the internet’s dark corners. The regular media is dictated by the elite, while there are places that the elite cannot influence on the internet. Some people are convinced they will find the truth in these places of “free” speech.
Because I researched YouTube for this article, I was presented with one video after another on this subject, coming across everything from COVID-19 conspiracies to a secret agenda of alien lizard people and child-murdering politicians. The same message was repeated so often that even I started to doubt the news. Was I being manipulated by the mainstream news agencies, or are the often-anonymous sources I encountered on the internet manipulating the truth?
What is the Truth?
In the internet’s darkest places, I read that our people’s leaders abuse children and are worshipers of Satan. The only proof I could find were websites repeating other obscure websites. Asking critical questions was not allowed. I felt unsafe doing so, seeing that people were threatened if they gave a dissenting opinion. Trying to stay objective I encountered hostility.
Have you ever tried to give an opinion in places that do not fit their beliefs? If you try, you will discover you are not entitled to a different opinion at all! Staying neutral in a world of opposites is difficult, maybe even impossible. It doesn’t matter what side you are on. Sooner or later, you will be criticized for having your own opinion.
Looking for Facts
Finally, I decided it was important to stick to the facts:
- I know that the WHO exists and informs and advises us about the virus.
- I know that the WEF exists and that only wealthy and powerful people can be members.
- I know the WEF has written a program to redefine the economy, health care, and education.
- I know they have given it the name The Great Reset.
It looks like the great reset wants the best for humanity, but I am not sure of their motives. This means I am critical about the Great Reset, but I am also cynical.
In the seventies, as a teenager/young woman, I hoped we would treat the earth better. I was concerned about the earth. What kind of place would it be for the next generations? Could we do something against pollution? And what about the human rights? Was it possible to treat each other equally?
And now I am retired. My generation didn’t fix anything. Things got worse, and we need reforms to make it better. Should we give the WEF the benefit of the doubt? Or is the battle lost and is a great disaster the only solution? Is this the end time? Is it possible to stop Armageddon?
Honestly, I don’t know, But I do hope we can solve our problems peacefully. United instead of divided. Critical, but with the right intentions.
